Operation Gratitude candy buy back a great success said Dr. Parkin at Cheyenne Mountain Dental Center

By Cheyenne Mountain Dental Center Dated: Nov 08, 2011

The fifth annual Colorado Springs Halloween candy buy back to benefit the U.S. troops overseas was a record breaker said Dr. Ralph Parkin at Cheyenne Mountain Dental Center

The community support for the local Colorado Springs Halloween candy buy event that supports Operation Gratitude was a resounding success. Cheyenne Mountain Dental Center as of this writing had received donations from kids and adults of close to 200 pounds of Halloween candy with more to come said Dr. Ralph Parkin. Over 30 people came by their 1803 B Street location from November 2nd through November 8th bringing in sacks and bags full of candy.

Operation Gratitude based in California takes the candy donations gathered from dental offices throughout the country and adds them to several other items useful to the troops overseas. They then make up tens of thousands of holiday “care” packages that are sent to the troops in areas of conflict around the world in an effort to let them know they are loved. Last year alone 125 tons of candy were included in 60,000 holiday packages. The donations have come from as far away Steamboat Springs, Colorado where the Strawberry Park Elementary school has been gathering up over 150 pounds of candy that they are bringing to Cheyenne Mountain Dental Center on the 10th.

Dr. Parkin said he was both surprised and gratified by the wonderful community support on this the 5th year of the buy back program. Small children with some encouragement from their parents seemed tounderstand the purpose for the buy back and they liked the travel packs of goodies including the very cool firefly lighted and timed toothbrushes they received as a thank you gift. Colorado Springs can be proud of their support of such a worthy cause said Dr. Parkin
