As you probably know my staff and I at Cheyenne Mountain Dental Center are dedicated and passionate about providing dental care for our patients. We have, over the last few years, felt a real concern as we have seen a large number of patients who have waited until their dental needs have gotten to the level of an emergency before they have sought our help.
National statistics indicate that about 50% of the U.S. population either doesn’t have a dentist or they haven’t been to a dentist in a long time. As a result their dental problems mount up and up and so do the costs to fix the problems they are experiencing.
Research on the connection between dental health and our physical wellbeing has been startling in its findings. A person is far more likely to suffer a stroke or have a heart attack or contract pneumonia and other lung diseases if they have gum disease. A person often doesn’t even know they have gum disease until the later stages when most of the damage has already been done. Mouth cancer is moving into an ever younger age group and without early detection people have only a 50/50 chance of living 5 years. Women are more likely to have miscarriages or pre-term babies if they have gun disease. Studies have shown that people with healthy mouths simply live 8-10 years longer than those who don’t.
